Sony has officially rolled out cloud streaming for the PlayStation Portal, letting PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers stream thousands of compatible digital PS5 games from their own library—with no need to connect to a home console. The update, launched on November 5, is touted as a “game-changer” for gamers wanting true on-the-go access to major blockbusters, classic titles, and the PS Plus Game Catalog.
What’s New: Stream Your PS5 Library and More
With the new update, players can stream hit releases like Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Resident Evil 4 directly to the Portal handheld. Hundreds more titles, including Cyberpunk 2077, God of War Ragnarök, and The Last of Us Part II Remastered are also streamable thanks to integration with the PlayStation Plus Game and Classics Catalogs. The only requirement is an active PS Plus Premium subscription—Sony’s top-tier service.
Tech Enhancements and User Experience Boost
Beyond cloud streaming, the Portal now features a redesigned UI, improved home screen with easy tabs for Remote Play, Cloud Streaming, and Search, 3D audio capabilities, game invitations, accessibility changes, and password lock. Firmware upgrades bring a smoother, more immersive experience, allowing players to join multiplayer sessions or make in-game purchases on the go.
Global Play Gets Easier—With Some Limits
Sony notes that a steady Wi-Fi connection is critical for a smooth experience, and not every PS5 game is supported at launch—though the “thousands” already included are a big draw.
