Marine Corps Turns 250, Veterans Reunite in Maryland

Union Bridge, Maryland, was filled with pride and camaraderie Saturday as local veterans came together to celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States Marine Corps. The event, hosted at Flood Zone Brewery by Marine and brewer Keith Waybright, reunited Marines from multiple generations—some had not seen each other in decades, bridging the gap between past and present service.

Honoring Tradition and Brotherhood

For many veterans, the gathering wasn’t simply about marking the Corps’ milestone, but reconnecting after years apart, especially following disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Waybright explained, “When COVID happened, we didn’t have a place to have a reunion for my guys. I happen to be the brewer here, I went to the boss about the event and it’s just boomed into something amazing.” The brewery provided a space for the unique sense of kinship that defines the Marine Corps: “You could be 19, you could be 93, you’re still a Marine,” said Waybright.

A Milestone for Maryland Veterans

The celebration included stories, photos, and plenty of smiles as veterans swapped memories both solemn and joyful—a tribute to the Marine Corps’ enduring spirit and the lifelong bonds forged in service. Organizers hope the renewed tradition continues for future birthdays, offering a place for reflection, celebration, and support for all who have worn the eagle, globe, and anchor.

The event also brought together families, friends, and supporters from throughout Carroll County, underscoring the pivotal role that local communities play in honoring and sustaining America’s servicemen and women.
